Relationship / Couples Counselling

Relationship counselling is generally held weekly or fortnightly to maintain therapeutic momentum at the start, once sustainable change has been effective a period of maintenance follows.

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR)

My approach to FDR is structured, restorative and child-centred.

Where appropriate, I prefer to begin with a restorative conversation before formal mediation. Addressing hurt, misunderstanding and entrenched positions early often reduces escalation and improves cooperation during agreement-making.

When children are involved (particularly aged 5 and above), I strongly encourage Child Inclusive Practice. In my view, this represents best practice in most parenting matters.

Two Pathways in FDR

1. Standard FDR Process

Suitable where conflict levels are lower or where parents are already cooperative.

Stage 1 – Intake (Individual)
90 minutes – $489 per person

Stage 2 – Pre-Mediation (Individual)
90 minutes – $489 per person

Stage 3 – Joint Mediation
90 minutes – $489 (shared cost)
Typically 1–3 sessions depending on complexity

Estimated total per person:
$1,500 – $2,500
(depending on number of joint sessions and preparation required)

2. Child-Centred FDR (Recommended as best practice)

This pathway integrates Restorative Practice and Child Inclusive Practice.

It is more comprehensive, and in many cases more effective and protective in the long term.

Stage 1 – Intake (Individual)
90 minutes – $489 per person

Stage 2 – Restorative Conversation (Joint)
90 minutes – $489 (shared cost)

Stage 3 – Child Inclusive Practice (CIP)
Child session(s) – $325 per hour

Stage 4 – Pre-Mediation (Individual)
90 minutes – $489 per person

Stage 5 – Joint Mediation
90 minutes – $489 (shared cost)
Typically 1–3 sessions, the 1st includes 30-60 minutes of CIP feedback

Estimated total per person:
$2,500 – $3,500
(depending on number of children and session length)

Why Child Inclusive Practice?

When children are heard in a safe, developmentally appropriate way, agreements are often:

  • More durable
  • More cooperative
  • Better aligned with children’s lived experience
  • Less likely to return to dispute

While this pathway involves greater upfront investment, it often reduces ongoing conflict and future legal costs.
